¡Hola América del Sur!

¡Buenos dias amigos!

Apologies for another somewhat lengthy absence. We have been busy bees, touring our way through the South American circuit we had planned. So far, we have spent a total of one month in Argentina, Bolivia and Peru (where we now find ourselves).

We started our journey in Buenos Aires: a beautiful, huge city with a distinctive European vibe.

Unfortunately, Argentina is quite pricey for the lowely backpacker! As such, we had to limit our time here.

We trundled our way north through the country, heading for Bolivia. Sucre was definitely one of my favourite places to visit in Bolivia. Steeped in rich and complicated history, the beautiful sun-drenched town is full of small cobbled streets lined with whitewashed buildings.

The country's capital, La Paz, was also a highlight. With bustling streets, huge cathedrals and a cable car system which sprawls across the sky.

Discovering Isla del Sol was the icing on the Bolivian cake. The island is b-e-a-utiful! With no roads or cars the secluded island, lost in the depths of Lake Titicaca, is peaceful and tranquil. Ed and I hiked across the island to watch the sun lazily set and then the moon rise over the water! Really breath-taking!

Finally, we crossed Lake Titicaca and waved "adios" to Bolivia and "hola" to Peru! It was an easy overnight bus which took us to Puerto Maldanodo where we met up with Ed's mum and her partner, Jon! We spent two days here trekking through the sticky Amazonian jungle in search of wildlife and adventure.

So far South America has definitely presented some challeneges for us. In particular, our abysmal grasp of the spanish language has been cause for some funny/problematic situations. The availability of decent vegan food is also pretty scarce, which is a bit of a downer (low point = crackers and oreos for dinner). HOWEVER, visiting all the charming small towns across Bolivia, as well as trekking through the Amazon in Peru has definitely made up for it!

We are currently en-route to our Machu Picchu hike! We will be sure to keep you posted!

¡Hasta Luego!
