Apologies for bombarding you with another post so soon after the previous one. We will be without internet for a while, so thought we'd share our Kilifi experience with you.
Listen to "Crosses" by Jose Gonzalez (over to the right of the page), it will help you feel like you're in Kilifi with us!
Life in this sleepy town really is “poli poli” (a commonly heard Swahili phrase, meaning ‘slowly slowly’). The local people are friendly and truly welcoming. If you’re looking for escapism, Kilifi is your place! It’s impossible to be stressed about anything here. I also believe that being without wifi for a few days helps with this.

Different forms of life here are abundant and beautiful: butterflies of all colours, herds of loud goats and of course mischievous monkeys. All of these creatures seem to exist peacefully with the town.

We stayed for three nights in Distant Relatives Eco Lodge. We can’t recommend this place highly enough! It was peaceful, tranquil, sociable and (of course) eco-friendly.

Distant Relatives even came with the lovely Mowgli. Such a sweet dog!

The highlight of our stay in Kilifi was definitely the sailing trip we took out to Kilifi Creek with ‘Rasta Steve’. We sailed out through the mangroves to the creek at around 5pm; there we waited for the sun to set and swam in the ocean. Our boat was completely alone in the ocean: it felt like the sun was setting just for us.

It got dark quickly and the winds started to rise, making the water choppy. Rasta Steve commented that “the ocean is singing for us”, which I found both a poetic and an accurate description.

Thanks for reading and see you soon.
